The Makini Schools Children’s Choir from Nairobi, Kenya will hold a free concert at 7 p.m. on May 23 at the Church of the Redeemer in Kenmore.
Singing with the group will be members of their host, the Bellevue Girlchoir, directed by Darcy Morrissey. Together they will sing songs from around the world in this non-ticketed event appropriate for all ages.
“Bellevue Girlchoir is honored to host the Makini Schools Children’s Choir from Kenya,” said Darcy Morrissey, BGC Artistic Director. “And, we are excited perform music from around the world in the beautiful acoustics of Church of the Redeemer, a delight for singers and audiences alike.”
The Church of the Redeemer is located at 6211 NE 182nd Street in Kenmore.
The Makini Schools Children’s Choir is made up of kids ages 9–11. It is part of the Makini School, which is an elite, private, boarding school. The choir, conducted by David Isindu, is comprised of 40 choristers. This concert features 14 singers, 11 girls and three boys.
Bellevue Girl choir offers two non-auditioned programs, Kinder and Primary Choir, serving girls ages 5-7. Three auditioned choir levels—Intermediate, Training and Concert Choirs—serve choristers ages 8-14.
Choristers learn musicianship, vocal technique, and performance skills. They participate in main stage concerts, outreach events, and collaborations. Choristers have the opportunity to participate in regional, national, and international choral festivals and tours. This year, Training and Concert Choirs will perform at Fort Worden Children’s Choir Festival.
