We are pleased with the accomplishments of the current Kenmore City Council and enthusiastically support their actions to make Kenmore a better place to live and work. This council has had the courage to believe in and act for the benefit of our city.
As residents of Kenmore since 1961, we would like to respond to some of the recent letters of complaint published in the Reporter.
We applaud the City Council in its ability to maintain a sound financial status. The city has no debt. Revenue has continued to exceed expenses every month this year. City hall is being built with funds saved for this purpose over the last 11 years. Compared to adjacent cities, King County and the state, Kenmore is in great shape as we navigate through these difficult economic times. The council is monitoring our financial status carefully and is proactive. Therefore, course corrections may be necessary.
The City Council and the city manager worked diligently to save the post office that will be relocating to the current city hall in November, clearing the way for the King County Library to begin construction of its new facility.
Regarding city expenditures on State Route 522 and the new city hall, we are pleased to see the beautiful landscaping and sidewalks and to drive on the smooth new roadway, and we look forward to the completion of our new city hall. These improvements to our city will be an attraction to new businesses now and in the future.
The City Council and staff are actively seeking funds to complete the work on SR 522, a state highway. The design, number of lanes and medians are mandated by the state, not by the city of Kenmore.
The new city hall, fire station and library demonstrate that people in Kenmore are building for the future. The library, fire department, State Highway Department and city of Kenmore are proceeding with their vision for the future and building now when costs are less and so many people need work.
Now is not the time to change our elected representatives on the City Council. Kenmore’s future is in good hands.
