Legislation has been introduced ensuring technology is part of the state’s education goals.
To support this effort Sen. Rosemary McAuliffe, D—Bothell, chair of the Early Learning & K-12 Education Committee introduced SB 5392, updating the education goals to read as follows:
“(To) know and apply the core concepts and principles of mathematics; social, physical and life sciences; technology; civics and history, including different cultures and participation in representative government; geography; arts; and health and fitness.”
“Students live in a world linked to technology and it’s past time we formally recognize this as part of our education goals,” said McAuliffe in a press release. “Many schools are already leading the way with innovative science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs. Updating our goals should inspire others to follow.”
