Leslie Bussert, head of instruction for the University of Washington, Bothell and Cascadia Community College library, has received the 2011 Community College Learning Resources Program Achievement Award. The award will be presented to Bussert during the American Library Association annual conference in June.

Bussert earned the accolade due to her innovative assessment work. In collaboration with Norm Pouliot, Bussert converted a grading rubric into an online self-assessment survey that can be used to communicate information literacy learning goals to students. Her work has been widely praised as an advocacy tool for sustaining information literacy instruction programs.

Bussert earned a bachelor of arts degree in English literature from Western Washington University and a master of library and information science degree from the University of Washington.

In addition to receiving the Community College Learning Resources Program Achievement Award, Bussert was nominated along with three other UW-Bothell librarians for the UW Libraries Distinguished Librarian award. The other three UW-Bothell librarian nominees are: Jackie Belanger, arts and humanities librarian; Julie Planchon Wolf, nursing librarian; and Katie Whitson, head of collections and building operations.
