As students prepare for summer fun, many are looking for opportunities in the workplace. To help them prepare, Bothell High School teachers Shelley Grant, Doug Hakala and Lori Ley partnered with many leading managers and various local business owners to conduct mock interviews of business and marketing students on April 8 in the school’s library.

Students were assessed not only on their interviewing skills and etiquette, but also on effective marketing skills to become leading candidates for various positions that may be available for hire in the coming months. Students also provided a complete resume, application, and effective cover letter with their qualifications and experiences.

Uncle Peteza’s owner Pete Anthony had shared his concerns with the lack of education in preparing for the do’s and don’t’s of interviewing, as he experiences this himself when hiring employees.

“It is so nice to hear that the school is offering this opportunity,” he said.

He and Jerry Bannister of Bannister Homes immediately jumped on the opportunity to help students. They find the value in offering these mock interviews to students and hope that it continues within the Northshore School District.

Other businesses participating include Grazie Italian Restaurant, Bothell Health Care, Key Bank, Safeway, Fred Meyer, CEC LLC, PCC Natural Markets, and more.

“We are looking forward to positive results that were invested in this career unit our teachers have provided for our students,” Grant said.
