After two long seasons, the streak is finally over.
The Inglemoor High football team beat Newport, 40-28, on Friday at Pop Keeney Stadium in Bothell for the varsity program’s first win since Nov. 6, 2014.
It was also Inglemoor’s first conference win since the 2012 season, a streak of 25 consecutive games.
“It felt great for the guys, and especially for the seniors,” said Inglemoor coach DJ Baddeley. “It’s been a bit of a struggle for the last year and a half, so it was good for them to get the win. They deserve that.”
The Vikings (1-3 KingCo, 1-5) led 27-14 at halftime, but Newport scored twice in the third quarter to take a one-point lead.
Cole Kindschi scored on a 2-yard run early in the fourth quarter and quarterback Dahlton Sullivan hit Cameron Oremus on an 18-yard fourth-down pass to score and seal the victory for Inglemoor.
“We felt that there have been several games this year where we didn’t execute — games we could have won,” Baddeley said. “We had some tough losses where we were right in it at the end.”
This time, the Vikings got a big defensive stop on fourth down, then stepped up and intercepted the Newport quarterback in the final minutes of the game.
“Our message [against Newport] was to come out and compete and play hard,” Baddeley said.
Sullivan completed 15 passes for 289 yards and two touchdowns, hitting Kindschi four times for 139 receiving yards. Kindschi finished with four touchdowns — three rushing and one receiving — and 166 total yards.
Kyle Loken led the team on the ground, rushing for 130 yards and a first-quarter touchdown.
The teams combined for 34 points in the first quarter alone, including a 20-0 lead for Inglemoor.
Next, Inglemoor is scheduled to take on Skyline at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14 at Skyline High School in Sammamish.
