The Bothell City Hall has earned Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification. LEED certification underscores the city of Bothell’s commitment to sustainability.

City Hall, opened on Oct. 26, 2015, was designed to meet a target of LEED Gold. It includes many energy efficient features:

• The building has been oriented to control solar heat gain.

• A solar array will save energy costs.

• Storm water is treated on-site in a rain garden adjacent to outdoor public spaces.

• The living wall, part of the one percent for art program, improves indoor air quality.

• City Hall is located in the downtown core where walkability and access to public transportation will help reduce vehicle emissions.

• Charging stations are available visitors to City Hall with electric vehicles.

The new building includes 53,096 square feet above grade and 82,040 square feet below grade, with three floors of parking. More than 100 stalls of parking are now available for free public use. The site was designed to accommodate two private hotels on the Civic Center block. Hotel construction is likely to begin in 2017.

City Hall replaced a building built in the 1930s when Bothell’s population was about 800. The city’s population is now more than 42,000.
