Inglemoor High senior Nick Laccinole finished just short of his first state title in the 1600 meter run on Thursday, May 25, taking second at the Class 4A championships at Mt. Tahoma Stadium in Tacoma.
Laccinole came in with the best seed in the division, but was edged by longtime rival Jack Yearian. The University of Oregon-bound Bellarmine Prep senior won the event in a career-best 4 minutes, 7.68 seconds. Laccinole was just off his season best, finishing in 4:11.27.
The pair will meet again in the 3200 meter final, scheduled for Saturday, May 27. Laccinole will run for the University of Washington next season.
Fellow Inglemoor senior Gavin Parpart also competed in the 1600 meter final, finishing 14th in 4:23.45.
The Inglemoor boys’ 4×400 meter relay team had an excellent day, running its second-fastest time of the season to nab the second seed following Thursday’s preliminary heats. Ethan Karlinsey, Connor Keyes, Laccinole and Michael Rhoads qualified for finals with a time of 3:21.89.
Inglemoor’s Ifeoma Emeka cleared 32 feet, 10 inches in the girls’ triple jump, finishing 13th overall.
In the boys’ 110 meter hurdles, Bothell’s Jalen Ford finished 12th in 15.51 and did not make finals.
Plenty of Inglemoor and Bothell athletes are scheduled to compete in the second day of the 4A state meet on Friday in Tacoma.
Inglemoor junior Chinedu Ugokwoli is scheduled for the first flight of the boys’ triple jump.
Bothell freshman Natalie Holmer will compete in the first flight of the girls’ javelin competition, with Bothell senior Elizabeth Lowell-Forker in the second flight.
Inglemoor’s Ruby Charney is scheduled for the first flight of the 4A girls’ shot put. Emeka is set for the 4A girls’ long jump.
Bothell junior Kevin Liu has one of the better seeds in the 4A boys’ 100 meter prelims on Friday, along with fellow KingCo competitors Micah Johnson of Woodinville and Jacob Belceto of Mt. Si.
Karlinsey is scheduled for the first heat of the 800 meter preliminaries, and Inglemoor’s Jalen Woodley is set to compete in the second heat of the 300 meter hurdle prelims.
The Bothell 4×100 meter relay team — Daniel Summers, Dane Siegelman, Ford and Liu — is in the second heat of preliminaries on Friday.
The Bothell girls’ 4×100 meter relay team of Paiton Sabatini, Emma Gagliardi, Emily Gibson and Lauren Stavig, are in the first preliminary heat.
Rhoads is in the second heat of the 4A boys’ 400 meter prelims.
Bothell senior Sophie Bowles is scheduled for the second heat of the 4A girls’ 200 meter prelims.
