I am writing in support of Kenmore’s Proposition 1 for Walkways and Waterways and I am encouraging the Kenmore community to do the same. My family moved to Kenmore in 2010, partly due to the location at the north end of Lake Washington. What we have noticed over the last six years, is that while we enjoy the local parks, we don’t have the same opportunity to enjoy the river and the lake itself. Proposition 1 will remedy that by improving waterfront access for all.
Prop 1 will create access to the Sammamish River at Rhododendron Park through new paths and boardwalks. New parking will be developed at the boat launch where a new dock is being built. Squires Landing will be vastly improved with new paths and boardwalks, habitat and open space improvements along with improved facilities for canoes and kayaks. Log Boom will have a sandy beach and new trails and picnic areas. All of these projects will enable more Kenmore citizens to enjoy our waterfront.
I was fortunate to get to spend some time rowing on Lake Washington and the Sammamish River this summer. One evening at sunset we got to see seaplanes landing, Mount Rainier in all her splendor, hot air balloons over Woodinville and a bald eagle on the shore. It was spectacular. I want more people to have the access and opportunity to spend an evening like that on the water. Voting yes on Proposition 1 will do achieve that for our community.
