UW-Bothell names McCray 2011 Diversity Scholar

The recipient of the University of Washington, Bothell Diversity Scholar Award for 2011 is freshman Stephenie McCray, who enters the university with a high-school grade-point average of 4.0. Only one Diversity Scholar Award is bestowed each year at UW-Bothell; the award is $10,000 for four consecutive years. The Diversity Scholar Award is privately supported through the contributions of many individuals, organizations and local businesses, including Costco, Chateau Ste. Michelle and Safeco. The scholarship is awarded to a high-achieving, underrepresented minority student who will be entering the university as a freshman.

The recipient of the University of Washington, Bothell Diversity Scholar Award for 2011 is freshman Stephenie McCray, who enters the university with a high-school grade-point average of 4.0. The Diversity Scholar Award is privately supported through the contributions of many individuals, organizations and local businesses, including Costco, Chateau Ste. Michelle and Safeco. The scholarship is awarded to a high-achieving, underrepresented minority student who will be entering the university as a freshman.

“To be chosen for the UW-Bothell Diversity Scholar Award has been a huge blessing not just for me, but for my family, as well,” says McCray. “Throughout high school, I worked hard to prove what I was capable of; receiving this award lets me know that my hard work has not gone unnoticed. Thank you to all the supporters of the award, I am highly appreciative.”

Factors considered in the selection process include academic achievement, personal and community service, and financial need. The award is available only to Washington state residents. McCray’s hometown is Seattle, where she attended Franklin High. She plans to study biology, with a focus on neurology.
