In response to the Reporter’s article of March 10 titled, “Lawmakers Declare Bastyr Day,” I want to extend my personal thanks to Mayor David Baker and other representatives from the city of Kenmore who attended this celebratory event at the State Capitol. My family and I moved to Kenmore nearly one ago after I accepted a position of employment at Bastyr University. Mayor Baker was one of the first people we met, and he immediately impressed me with his knowledge of the issues facing Kenmore’s local government, his passion for public service and his appreciation for Bastyr University. I believe that with their unanimous support for Bastyr’s Master Plan and proposal for community use of the university’s athletic fields, Mayor Baker and his colleagues on the Kenmore City Council are charting a course of trust and cooperation between our great community and university. While the event in Olympia was called “Bastyr Day,” in reality
it was a celebration of Kenmore, the home of this wonderful institution, and having our mayor at the Capitol advocating for our university made the day so much more meaningful. Again, my thanks to Mayor Baker for his vision for Kenmore and his support for Bastyr University.
