The Dec. 7 Bothell-Reporter contained yet another article providing additional information about Mr. Lamb’s adulterous affair with a 23-year-old woman. In recent court filings (Dec. 4), Mr. Lamb admits to having a “consensual sexual relationship” with the woman. So that is not in question. Mr. Lamb’s attorney has tried to argue that his position as Mayor of Bothell is irrelevant to the woman’s complaint. So, what is the connection to his position as mayor? The woman makes two claims that directly relate to his official duties. First, she claims that shortly after meeting her, Mr. Lamb tried to get her to go with him to Las Vegas where he attended a four-day meeting, at city expense, concerning shopping centers.

Second, as reported in your article, she claims in a sworn statement that she “went to Olympia and stayed overnight with Mr. Lamb, who was attending an annual conference of Washington elected officials in his capacity as Bothell’s mayor.” This was likely the meeting of the Association of Washington Cities and his expenses were paid for by the taxpayers.

This affair lasted about 22 months, ending in March of this year. It was going on right through the 2011 election. It seems highly unlikely he would have won another term had this affair been public knowledge during that campaign.

All of the news reports and continuing revelations about this extramarital affair have drawn very unfavorable attention to our city. The right thing for Mr. Lamb to do is resign from the council and spend his time healing with his family.

If he is unwilling to resign, then the council should replace him as mayor and elect someone else who can devote his energies to leading our city.
