At the Washington State PTA Convention at the SeaTac Doubletree hotel last weekend, the Arrowhead Elementary PTA was recognized as the 2011 Outstanding Local Unit of the Year. This is the second time Arrowhead has earned this prestigious award, the last time being in 2009. In addition to the Outstanding Local Unit perpetual plaque, which they will be allowed to keep for one year, Arrowhead will receive a stipend from Washington State PTA to allow them to send delegates to the National PTA Convention in Orlando, Fla., in early June.
Following is a list of all the awards Northshore PTAs/PTSAs received at convention:
• Oustanding Local Unit of the Year: Arrowhead
• Gold Level Honor Unit: Arrowhead
• Silver Level Honor Unit: Wellington Elementary
• Bronze Level Honor Unit: Canyon Creek Elementary
• Local Unit Standards of Excellence: Gold level – Arrowhead; Silver Level – Wellington, Canyon Creek
• PTAs Taking Significant Action Award/Local Unit Winners: Canyon Creek (“Science Enrichment Program”), Wellington (“Helping Hands Service Club”)
• Outstanding Newsletters/Junior, Middle and High School: Second place – Bothell High
• Outstanding Newsletters/Elementary: Second place – Arrowhead
• Communications Awards/Elementary Electronic Media: First place (tie) – Arrowhead
• Communications Awards/Elementary Web Division: Third place – Arrowhead
• 100% Membership Award: Arrowhead (one of 28 local units who achieved this)
• Council Standards of Excellence: Gold Level – Northshore Council PTSA
• Communications Awards/Council Electronic Media: Third place – Northshore Council PTSA
• Communications Awards/Council Web: First place – Northshore Council PTSA
• PTA Men Essay Contest Winners: The winner in the 3rd-5th Grade group was Megan Jensen from Arrowhead.
A record number of Northshore delegates attended convention this year, and their scholarship raffle basket helped raise funds for the Washington State PTA Scholarship Program.
