Third-graders from Woodin Elementary will be singing the praises of the Northshore Schools Foundation, at the 8th Annual “Light a Fire for Learning” luncheon to be held April 26 at the Lynnwood Convention Center. Opening with “Giving and Receiving,” Woodin students will be celebrating the 2007 grant received by teacher Heather Arnold, which helped fund student performances by the dual-language and regular-curriculum students.

The Leota Junior High Orchestra will also be welcoming the anticipated 500 guests as they arrive at the event. The Northshore Schools Foundation supported the orchestra by funding the purchase of two cellos in 2005 and 2006.

This will be Claire Mortimore’s second time presenting at the luncheon as a student speaker. Mortimore, a senior at Inglemoor High this year, has seen the positive impact of schools-foundation dollars throughout her tenure as a student in the district. From heart monitors to Robotics class, this student is making it clear that grants funded by the foundation have a long-lasting impact on students.

Youth presenters will be joined by keynote speaker Jim Dever, host of King 5 Evening Magazine, along with Andy Wappler, Puget Sound Energy and Dale Amundsen, Evergreen Washelli. The goal of the luncheon will be to raise more than $100,000 to fund the foundation’s new funding initiatives, which benefit all students in the 31 schools district wide.
