A Bothell counselor plead not guilty in King County Superior Court to second degree rape of an 18-year-old man while caring for him at his Bothell office.
Ayhan Yavuz, 48, was charged with the crime on Aug. 5 after admitting the incident to Bothell police. An arrest warrant has been issued for Yavuz and $50,000 bail has been requested by prosecutors. The man’s license as a certified counselor and a registered hypnotherapist has been suspended by the Department of Health.
He faces 78-102 months in prison if convicted.
The alleged victim told police he began seeing Yavuz at the Balancing Health Clinic in Bothell for depression and anxiety in October 2012, according to court documents. A google search showed Balancing Health Integrative Medicine at the same address.
Starting at the end of November 2012, Yavuz asked the man to participate in “energy therapy,” which turned into the sexual assaults. During the interview with investigators the man said he “was asked to perform things that seemed out of the ordinary and what he believed were sexual in nature.”
He also stated that “many uncomfortable things occurred and that he believed were not for treating his anxiety or depression, but to fuel Yavuz’s sexual desires.”
The man said that Yavuz made him remove his pants and underwear and that Yavuz shoved his thumb into his mouth, making him gag, before grabbing the his genitals. During the sessions the door was closed and no one else was present, the documents continued.
The man quit seeing Yavuz at the beginning of December and told his new counselor about the sexual assault, who informed the Bothell Police Department and the Washington State Department of Health of the incidents, the documents continue.
When questioned by police, Yavuz admitted to the sexual contact with the man and told detectives that the sexual contact was more extensive than what the man had told them.
Police then interviewed the alleged victim for a second time. The man stated that the contact included Yavuz making the young man touch his genitals and that “Yavuz orally sodomized him during a counseling session,” according to court documents.
