The city of Kenmore’s 2013 Asphalt Overlay Project of Juanita Drive NE was delayed and is now anticipated to start during the month of August.

The asphalt overlay includes the section of Juanita Drive between the south end of the Sammamish River Bridge to the southern City limits at NE 143rd Street. The actual start date is dependent upon the contractor’s schedule as they are repaving several areas throughout the region as part of a multi-jurisdiction contract. Variable message boards will be placed along Juanita Drive to help notify citizens of the project schedule.

Most of the paving work will be done at night between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. to avoid major commuter delays. The work is anticipated to take two weeks and will involve single-lane closures in each direction.

Crews will make every effort to minimize construction noise as they work during the night. Crews will prevent noise from banging truck tailgates by securing the gates and by using special equipment to transfer asphalt from trucks to the paving machine. They will use the lowest-volume back-up alarms allowed.

Crews also will be doing preparation work on-site during the daytime and will be striping the roadway and completing shoulders after paving is done.

The city of Kenmore Asphalt Overlay is an annual street maintenance program in which selected streets are repaved along with the repair and improvement to curbs, sidewalks and wheelchair ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
