The city of Kenmore invites residents and other interested parties to attend a community open house focusing on the future of several local shorelines. The session is 6-8 p.m. April 23 at the Northshore Utility District building, 6830 N.E. 185th St. There will be brief presentations at 6:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. describing the potential approaches to shoreline management that have been discussed to date. Staff and consultants will be on hand to answer questions and receive comments.

In response to state requirements, the city currently is updating its land use policies and regulations for the shorelines of Lake Washington, the Sammamish River and Swamp Creek. Kenmore’s Planning Commission and a Citizen’s Advisory Committee have been developing new strategies, attempting, officials say, to strike a balance between several state-mandated goals.

Those goals include: protecting the shoreline ecology; providing public access; and, supporting water dependent businesses.
