Longtime Northshore School District (NSD) teacher Bill Shields, who ended a lucrative career with Microsoft 12 years ago to teach math, was recently selected to be among 20 finalists in the national “Caddie for Love” contest sponsored by McGladrey Consulting.

Title sponsor of the PGA Tour’s McGladrey Classic which will be played at Sea Island Golf Club in Georgia this October, the firm is looking for one candidate that will bring “The Power of Being Understood” to the job of caddying for Davis Love III, a 20-time winner on the tour.

In his submission video, Shields talks about the importance of being understood as a teacher, citing the success of a struggling student who turned a D record into an A-minus.

In addition to teaching, Shields has served as a girls’ volleyball coach at Skyview Junior High for the past four years and has volunteered as a basketball coach the past 12 years with Northshore Youth Basketball Association.

Voting runs through August 26, and those who wish to support Shields can watch his video and vote once per day at http://mullen.promo.eprize.com/caddie.
