The State Legislature appropriated $300,000 for development of a Town Green or Public Gathering Space as part of the Kenmore Village project.

Forty-sixth District Sen. David Frockt and State Rep. Gerry Pollet and Rep. Jessyn Farrell requested the appropriation on behalf of the city.

“This Town Green will go a long way toward giving us our own sense of place here in Kenmore—our very own community living room where we can gather, hang out, and interact with one another,” said Kenmore Mayor David Baker.

Kenmore’s Town Green will be a signature gathering space in the heart of the city’s downtown. The Kenmore Village developer and the city will partner together to maximize the Town Green’s public use while complementing adjacent retail, office, and residential uses.

A key component of the Town Green will be its “walkability,” or its walking proximity to local businesses, major bus lines, the Burke-Gilman Trail, and residential neighborhoods.

“We are grateful to Senator Frockt, Representative Pollet, and Representative Farrell for their tireless efforts in advocating on Kenmore’s behalf in Olympia,” Baker said. “Kenmore is definitely on their radar screen.”

The city will host the first of three community workshops from 6-8 p.m. July 23 at the Kenmore City Hall, located at 18120 68th Ave. NE. They are seeking the public’s input on possible uses, features and design. The town green is planned to be constructed on the north side of Northeast 181st Street, near the northwest corner of Northeast 181st Street and 68th Avenue Northeast.
