Student-driven advocacy organization Graduate Washington has announced its early endorsements for the 2014 election. The organization has endorsed Rep. Gerry Pollet and Sen. David Frockt for their support of higher education policies.
“It is more critical than ever to elect leaders to Olympia who are ready to fight for affordable, accessible and top-quality higher education for all Washington students,” said Logan Bahr, Chair of the Graduate Washington Board and a graduate of Central Washington University.
Candidates were chosen for endorsement based on their knowledge of higher education policy, commitment to supporting current and future students and effectiveness in advancing legislation that helps students and their families afford and access college. Each candidate has done work in the legislature or their community to improve the lives and futures of Washington’s next generation of teachers, doctors, small business owners and community leaders.
“All of these candidates have distinguished experiences and accomplishments,” Bahr said. “Whether fighting for financial aid and lower tuition or promoting student involvement in higher education governance, these outstanding candidates have proven that they are a true champions for higher education.”
Graduate Washington’s early endorsements were made after reviewing candidates’ responses to a questionnaire as well as their legislative history or personal advocacy record. Candidates supported by Graduate Washington won 18 out of 20 races during the 2012 election cycle.
