A 30-year-old driver hit speeds of 70 mph to 80 mph through Bothell Tuesday morning as a pair of Snohomish County Sheriff’s deputies pursued because the SUV sported an “improper license plate,” according to Sheriff’s Office public-information officer Kevin Prentice.

After deputies initially approached the car to inquire about the license plate that was registered to another vehicle, the driver fled.

The three-minute pursuit, which began at about 4:45 a.m., went from 180th Street Southeast to 168th Street Southeast to 35th Avenue Southeast, where the chase ended. A third deputy laid out a spike strip on 168th that punctured the driver’s right front tire; the driver continued on to 35th, where the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer stopped.

The driver was booked into Snohomish County Jail for felony eluding and possession of a stolen vehicle, Prentice said.

“There was no property damage, except the tire was flat and a beaten-up fender because they continued to drive on afterward,” Prentice said. “There were no injuries … there was real light traffic.”
