Football
• Vikings’ run past Roughriders
Austin Terry had nearly half of Inglemoor’s 342 rushing yards as the Vikings ran past Roosevelt 37-20 in a KingCo 4A Crown Division football game Thursday night at Pop Keeney Stadium.
Terry had 151 yards on only seven carries and Paul Ena gained 99 on 21 attempts for Inglemoor (4-2 overall, 2-1 league). Todd Campbell passed for a pair of touchdowns and raced 53 yards for a score for the Vikings.
Roosevelt quarterback Nick Foster completed 15 of 31 passes for 235 yards with a TD throw and two interceptions. He also ran for a score. Kalliy Ceesay had 108 yards on 24 carries with a 47-yard scoring run for the Roughriders, who dropped to 1-2 in league play and 4-2 overall.
• Bothell wins fourth straight game
The Cougars defeated Woodinville 29-7 on Friday at Pop Keeney Stadium for their fourth-consecutive win after a humbling 0-2 start to the season. The win also propelled them to the top of the 4A Kingco Crown division as the only undefeated team, as Woodinville dropped to 2-1 in league play.
Running back Patrick Ottorbech, who has been torching teams with his speed and agility the whole season, rushed for 192 yards on 23 carries including an 8-yard touchdown run to put the Cougars up 11-0 early.
After a 46-yard pass from Falcon quarterback Tim Ip to Trevory Kelly found the end zone, Woodinville recovered a Bothell fumble on the next kickoff, driving it all the way to the 4-yard-line when they decided to attempt a 20-yard field goal.
Bothell linebacker Jake Arzola blocked the kick, which may have been the turning point in the game, as the Falcons were unable to score the rest of the game.
Volleyball
• Bothell sweeps league-leading Skyline
Before last Thursday’s 4A Kingco volleyball match against Skyline at Bothell High,, the Spartans were one of only two undefeated teams in the league.
The Cougars did something about that with decisive 25-16, 25-21 and 25-19 victories over the Spartans.
For Bothell, senior hitter Charnele Odingo racked up 11 kills on the night, followed by outside hitter Blythe Cannon with nine. Setter Anna Buck assisted 28 points for the Cougars, and Zoe Iida performed on defense with 14 digs to go along with five service aces.
The win lifted Bothell (5-1-0) to second place in the conference behind undefeated Issaquah, while Skyline’s first loss dropped them to an identical 5-1-0 record.
• Vikings drop one to Eastlake
Inglemoor lost to the Wolves in four games last Thursday at home in a 4A Kingco league match.
Eastlake (4-2) was the favorite coming into the game, but the Viks would not go down without a fight, including a heartbreaking 30-28 loss in game 2 which went eight extra points to decide the victor.
Inglemoor fought back to win game 3 25-21 but were outlasted in the fourth and deciding game 25-17.
For the Vikings, Karen Purkey had five service aces and 12 assists, setter Tess Parent assisted 14 times, Jennifer Derke dug up 21 balls and Megan Bafus had 10 kills at the net. With the loss, Inglemoor dropped to 2-4-0 in conference play (2-6-0 overall) on the season.
Cross Country
•Vikings place third
Inglemoor finished in the middle of the pack at last Wednesday’s 4A Kingco cross country meet at Lower Woodland Park.
The Vikings had 67 points, based on finishing order, and were beaten by Mercer Island (42) and Ballard (63).
Inglemoor’s Billy Wilkens finished third overall at the meet, running the course in 16:39, only six seconds off the pace set by Mercer Island’s Quinn Chasan.
Tennis
• Cougars squeak by Vikings
Bothell outlasted the visiting Inglemoor Vikings by a score of 5-4 last Wednesday in a 4A Kingco match.
The two teams split the singles portion of the match, with Viking Ryan Mayo sweeping Bothell’s Nick Wax 6-0, 6-0 in the number one singles bout, and number two Chris Reed of Bothell beating Trevor Shih 6-1, 6-3.
Wax avenged his routing in singles by teaming up with Reed to defeat the top Viking team of Ryan Mayo and Trevor Shih 6-1, 7-6 (5), and Cougars Russell Kilgannon and Craig Owen beat Vikings Ryan Jensen and Glen Zinck 6-2, 7-5 to secure the victory.
