The City of Bothell will lower all flags to half staff tomorrow in honor of longtime Bothell resident Marv Harshman. The honor comes on the day that a memorial will be held. The memorial will begin at 1 p.m. at at Marv Harshman Court at the University of Washington Hec Edmundson Pavilion
The Hall of Fame college basketball coach was a Bothell City Council member and was once the Fourth of July parade’s Grand Marshall.
“Now, therefore, in honor of Coach Harshman’s achievements and lifelong dedication to coaching both on and off the court, I, Mark Lamb, Mayor of the City of Bothell, do hereby declare May 11, 2013, as ‘Day of Mourning and Remembrance in Honor of Marv Harshman,'” states the proclamation.
Harshman coached at the University of Washington and Washington State University, among other schools. His 40 years of coaching earned him 654 wins and a gold medal in Mexico City as the Team USA coach for the Pan American Team of 1975. It also earned him a big win over UCLA rival coach and friend John Wooden.
