The Bothell High School football team earned its second win of the season Friday with a big 42-14 victory against Issaquah at Pop Keeney Stadium.
Sam McPherson put the Cougars up early with an eight-yard touchdown run on the team’s first drive of the game. Bothell put another touchdown on the board on offense before the end of the first quarter. But it was the defense that caused the home-field crowd to roar from the stands. Cougar Tyler Wharf scooped up a fumble and rumbled 65 yards for Bothell’s third score of the first quarter and a 21-0 lead.
The Cougars continued to add to that lead as senior fullback Jacob Johnston plowed into the end zone from eight-yards out on the team’s first possession of the second quarter. The Cougars would take that lead into halftime.
Bothell put in a trick play for its first score of the second half. A halfback pass from McPherson to Dayzell Wilson for a 20-yard score pretty much put an end to any chance of momentum for the Eagles.
Issaquah finally got on the board with a touchdown run with one minute left in the third quarter.
The teams would trade touchdowns during the fourth quarter before the final horn.
Bothell improves to 2-0 on the season with the win and will travel to Newport High school on Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
