Families, individuals contribute to strong Kenmore community/ Letter

My name is Brent Smith. Today I am announcing my candidacy for the Kenmore City Council (Position 3). My wife Brenda and I moved to Kenmore 23 years ago, and we have raised our two children, Carlie and Cooper, in this beautiful area. I believe that building a strong community doesn't happen by accident. It comes from families and individuals who feel a sense of responsibility to each other. It comes from hours of volunteer work. And it comes from simple gestures of friendship and neighborliness. I know this because my family and I have volunteered those hours ourselves, and we have been the beneficiaries of these efforts from our friends and neighbors.

I believe that building a strong community doesn’t happen by accident.

Over the years, I have joined other Kenmore citizens, the Kenmore city staff and local businesses to work on community projects such as building new and better public parks and playing fields for our kids. I have coached youth sports. And my family has volunteered hours to our local schools. I have an economics degree from the UW and have owned my own business for the last 13 years. This educational and business experience will be beneficial in working with the city council and staff on the difficult budget challenges facing our city.

I have had success working with others as an effective teammate, and I can bring a practical and effective communication style to Kenmore’s City Council. I would like to hear about your thoughts and ideas for a better Kenmore. If you share my vision for a strong community, I invite you to visit my Web site at www.withSmith.com, and join me and other “Friends of Brent” in our efforts.
